Artist's Comments

A while ago, I was looking through some of the photos I'd taken when I went to Greece. I came across this one photo from a Mycenaean palace which had these unusual gryphons frescoed on the walls.

Feeling a little inspired, I decided to drawn this Mycenaean influenced gryphon. I also tried to get the appearance of a frescoed wall, or ancient parchment with the textured background.

I am not a professional artist, so I cannot offer a professional artist's criticism. But I would like you to know that I think this particular piece is truly beautiful. It looks like some of the medieval work in the Lindisfarne Gospels, and also the Book of Kells. I get the impression from your screen name that you are from somewhere in Asia, or near there, so you may not have heard of the two great works that I have mentioned. They are from the British Isles in the early Middle Ages, roughly between the years 750 C.E. and perhaps 900 C.E. I hope that will help you to identify the works I am talking about. Very beautiful art that you create consistently. I watch your material and I am always glad to see when you have created something new. Peace.

Thank you! The Book of Kells and Lindisfarne Gospels are among my greatest sources of inspiration. I learned about them in highschool and university. Heh heh, eventhough my screen name is Chinese, it's simply a nod to my appreciation for Chinese art. I'm actually a Canadian of European descent. :)
