''The child watched the earth open up before him and saw his friend laid to rest within. Suddenly, he felt so alone even though he was surrounded by people. If only he had known that through everything The Spirit had stood beside him and it was only the limitations of his mortal heart that kept him from that knowledge.
Arcturus found himself reciting the funerary verses and he came across the words that had once brought him such enlightenment. ''DEATH WHERE IS THY STING!? DEATH WHERE IS THY VICTORY!?'' Arcturus announced. Once again, he knew their power but found himself unable to feel it. As the words rang from Arcturus's mouth, they seemed to resound in a world beyond him; a world he almost could not hear. And the reality of that moment simply could not sink in.'' © Christina Stoppa 2004 The words in bold italics are taken from the Bible: 1 Corinthians 15:55 This is an illustration for chapter 14 of 'The Lone Wild Heart' the story which I have been posting here. Media: Technical pen, Ball-point pen and various pencils. Prints of this piece are up for sale here: [link] |
