Yeah, that is tough. I personally think I prefer the second one, but the first might go over better for its intended purpose. Mostly because of, like you said, the slight disembodied head effect. Really, if you could make one almost exactly half-way between the two, it would be perfect. Kind of maintaining the dreaminess of the second one but making her body a bit more visible? I hope that helps!
I prefer the first one, because I believe the purple causes her to stand out more from the background, as well, it ties in with the purple colouration in some the leaves of the background. Artistically, I do believe this is the better choice.

I like the layering on the kimono of II, but maybe as an image it needs less in the background so that it stands out more. I voted for I because it seemed more harmonious as a whole with the leaves picking up the colours of the kimono rather than competing for attention.
